Building Happier and More Resilient Communities Across Europe

Happy people

Why Communities of Practice Matter More Than Ever

Across Europe, communities are facing unprecedented challenges. Social isolation, uncertainty, rapid technological change, demographic transitions and increasing pressures on mental well-being are affecting citizens of all ages. In this context, creating spaces where people can learn from one another, exchange experiences and build meaningful connections is becoming increasingly important.

This is the vision behind Happiness in Practice – Positive Psychology & Community Resilience, an Erasmus+ Adult Education project approved by the Italian National Agency INDIRE. The project aims to explore how positive psychology and community-based approaches can contribute to stronger, healthier and more resilient societies.

One of the key outcomes of the project is the creation of a European Community of Practice, bringing together educators, trainers, researchers, community leaders, social workers, civil society organisations and citizens who share an interest in well-being, lifelong learning and community development.

From Individual Well-being to Collective Resilience

Happiness is often perceived as a personal matter. However, research and practical experience increasingly demonstrate that well-being is deeply connected to the quality of our relationships, our sense of belonging and our ability to participate actively in community life.

Communities that foster trust, cooperation and mutual support are better equipped to address social challenges, recover from crises and create opportunities for sustainable development.

The Happiness in Practice Community of Practice has therefore been designed as a collaborative environment where participants can:

  • exchange good practices and practical tools;
  • discuss innovative approaches to well-being and positive psychology;
  • share experiences from different cultural and educational contexts;
  • develop new ideas for community engagement;
  • learn from peers across Europe.

Learning Through Exchange

The concept of a Community of Practice is rooted in the idea that learning happens not only through formal education but also through dialogue, reflection and shared experience.

By connecting professionals and practitioners from different countries and sectors, the Community creates opportunities for mutual learning and innovation. Participants are encouraged to contribute their own experiences while discovering new methodologies and perspectives developed by others.

This collaborative approach reflects the core values of the Erasmus+ Programme: cooperation, inclusion, participation and lifelong learning.

An Open Invitation to European Practitioners

The Community of Practice is open to anyone interested in exploring the relationship between happiness, well-being and community resilience.

Whether you are an educator, trainer, researcher, social worker, NGO representative, community facilitator or simply someone passionate about creating positive social change, your experience and perspective can enrich the network.

Joining the Community offers an opportunity not only to learn from others but also to contribute to a growing European conversation about how we can build more connected, resilient and flourishing communities.
