Happiness in Practice: Strengthening Well-being and Resilience in Adult Education
Across Europe, mental health and well-being are becoming central priorities in education, social inclusion, and community development. In this context, the Erasmus+ project “Happiness in Practice: Positive Psychology & Community Resilience” represents a concrete response to a growing societal need: supporting adults facing stress, uncertainty, and social vulnerability through innovative educational approaches.
Projects for Europe (PFE), as a partner in this initiative, contributes to advancing inclusive, community-based learning models that place well-being at the core of adult education.
A European Response to a Shared Challenge
Adults aged 35–60 across Europe are increasingly exposed to multiple pressures—economic instability, work-life balance challenges, and social isolation. These factors significantly impact emotional well-being and participation in lifelong learning.
The Happiness in Practice project addresses this challenge by integrating positive psychology, creative methodologies, and community engagement into adult education. Its objective is not only to improve individual well-being, but also to strengthen social cohesion and resilience at community level.
An Innovative Methodological Approach
What makes this project particularly relevant is its holistic and interdisciplinary approach, combining:
- Positive psychology techniques to foster emotional resilience
- Social and autobiographical theatre to support self-expression
- Empathy-based learning through structured dialogue (Empathy Circles)
- Laughter yoga as a non-formal tool for stress reduction and well-being
These methodologies are designed to be accessible, inclusive, and adaptable across different cultural contexts, ensuring that vulnerable groups—such as migrants, unemployed individuals, and socially excluded adults—can actively participate and benefit.
The Role of Projects for Europe
Within the partnership, Projects for Europe plays a strategic role in ensuring quality, dissemination, and long-term impact.
In particular, PFE contributes by:
- Leading the development of the Happiness Toolkit, a practical resource designed to transfer methodologies to educators and organisations
- Supporting quality assurance processes, ensuring that project outputs meet high educational and methodological standards
- Organising local dissemination activities in Belgium, engaging stakeholders and amplifying project visibility
- Promoting digital and intercultural learning approaches, reinforcing accessibility and scalability
Through its expertise in European cooperation and community engagement, PFE strengthens the project’s capacity to reach diverse audiences and ensure sustainability beyond its duration.
Building Communities of Practice
A key innovation of the project is the creation of a Community of Practice, where educators, practitioners, and participants can exchange experiences, tools, and strategies.
This approach transforms learning from a one-time activity into a continuous, peer-driven process, fostering long-term engagement and knowledge transfer across Europe.
Impact Beyond the Project
The expected impact of Happiness in Practice goes beyond individual participants. The project aims to:
- Enhance the competences of adult educators in addressing mental well-being
- Increase participation in lifelong learning among vulnerable groups
- Promote inclusive and accessible educational models
- Contribute to a European culture that values mental health as a collective responsibility
By making all resources openly accessible, the project ensures that its methodologies can be replicated and adapted by organisations across Europe, reinforcing its long-term value.
Towards a More Inclusive and Resilient Europe
In a time marked by uncertainty and rapid change, investing in well-being is no longer optional—it is essential.
Happiness in Practice demonstrates how European cooperation can generate innovative, human-centered solutions that empower individuals and strengthen communities.
For Projects for Europe, this project represents a concrete step towards building more inclusive, resilient, and connected societies, where education becomes a tool not only for knowledge, but for well-being and transformation.
